The more languages you speak you speak, the more times you are a human being. It’s not surprising, that English is one of the most important languages nowadays. English is spoken practically all around the world. Today English is used by at least 750 million people. It is necessary in different spheres.
To my way of thinking, learning foreign languages is very useful because it helps us to communicate with people from other countries, to understand another culture, to make a person educated and well rounded. As for me, I began to learn English at the age of twelve. At that time I didn’t know, why I chose this language. And now I can say with sure: “It was good choice for me”. I agree that if you see the world only from the perspective of your own native
Language, you can’t stretch your mind to other peoples and nations.
I have English three times a week at school. But I also have an optional lesson. Our teacher uses a lot of ways of teaching: listening to the cassettes, reading and translating texts and making dialogues, doing many exercisings, using the Internet. Besides, I have marvellous opportunity to communicate with native speakers through the Internet. One of my friends is from America. His name is Steve. We have the same interests. He really enjoys Russian culture. We like to discuss our teenage problems. He always supports me about my future plans. Frankly, I use every possibility to talk with my American friend. I bet it’s a good way to improve my English skills.
What is more, I would like to take part in “City and Guilds” exam and in some exchange programmes. It would be interesting and exciting for me! Learning English at school helps me to choose the future profession. I want to be an interpreter, because I know that it’s a very interesting and well-paid job. But I don’t want to leave Russia because I think that I will have more opportunities here. But learning English is not only for my future career. It also makes me more intelligent and understanding the English speech.
To sum up, I’m aware that learning foreign languages is always necessary, no matter what your future profession will be.
English In My Life – Английский язык в моей жизни
My favourite subject at school is English. I have been studying English for 5 years. Today English has a special place in my life. Learning English means getting extensive knowledge about whole culture. We do not just learn how to write, read and speak but also learn about habits and traditions of the English, discover different countries, cities and other things.
I also go to after school classes of English. Thanks to them now I can read some books in the original. Reading books in English helps to enlarge one’s vocabulary and enrich knowledge. I hope that one day I will be able to read my favourite books about Harry Potter in English.
I like watching films in English as well. Spoken language and written language are two completely different concepts. Every person has their own manner of speaking. Sometimes we can hear dialects which are not so easy to understand. At home I have a small collection of films in English. I have watched them several times already. Every time I watch a movie I understand more and more. I believe that watching films in English is a perfect exercise for listening comprehension.
In addition to that I love listening to music. I am so glad that now I can not only enjoy my favourite music but also try to understand what the songs are about.
Recently I have joined an English club. This is a place where anyone who is interested in English can come. I have already made a few friends there. There is a small library with books and DVDs there, so one can take them home. There is also an information board on the wall where one can find messages about forthcoming events in English that will take place in the town. Soon there will be guided walks around the historical part of the town in English.
I am very happy that English has made my life so interesting!
Мой любимый предмет в школе – это английский язык. Я изучаю английский уже 5 лет. Сегодня английский занимает особое место в моей жизни. Изучение английского означает получение обширных знаний о целой культуре. Мы не только учимся, как писать, читать и говорить, но также узнаем о привычках и традициях англичан, открываем для себя разные страны, города и другое.
Я также хожу на дополнительные занятия по английскому языку. Благодаря им я теперь могу читать некоторые книги в оригинале. Чтение книг на английском помогает увеличить словарный запас и обогатить знания. Я надеюсь, что однажды я смогу прочитать мои любимые книги о Гарри Поттере на английском.
Я также люблю смотреть фильмы на английском языке. Устная речь и письменная речь – два совершенно разных понятия. Каждый человек имеет свою особенность речи. Иногда можно услышать диалекты, которые не так легко понять. Дома у меня есть небольшая коллекция фильмов на английском языке. Я уже просмотрел их несколько раз. Каждый раз, когда я смотрю фильм, я понимаю больше и больше. Я считаю, что просмотр фильмов на английском является отличным упражнением для тренировки слуха.
Помимо этого, я люблю слушать музыку. Я так рад, что сейчас я могу не только наслаждаться своей любимой музыкой, но и стараться понять, о чем эти песни.
Недавно я вступил в английский клуб. Это место, куда может прийти каждый, кому интересен английский язык. Там у меня уже появилось несколько друзей. Там есть небольшая библиотека с книгами и DVD-дисками, которые можно брать домой. Там также есть доска информации, на которой можно найти сообщения о предстоящих событиях на английском языке, которые будут происходить в городе. Скоро по исторической части города будут проводится прогулки с гидом на английском языке.
Я очень счастлив, что английский язык сделал мою жизнь такой интересной!

It’s not a secret that English is the most popular and widespread language in the world nowadays. There are plenty of reasons for that. Firstly, it’s the language of English literature and Shakespeare. Secondly, it has become a really important in various fields, such as, tourism, business, medicine, education, IT, law, etc. Thirdly, English is a melodic and practical language to learn. Other than that, knowledge of English opens endless opportunities in career development and studies.
Many international students travel to English-speaking countries to improve their knowledge and speaking skills. They know that this guarantees rapid career development in the future, because almost all modern spheres of commerce and business are based on English.
Being a high school student, I fully understand this, so I try to master my language skills in every possible way. I’ve been learning English since I was five. It was always interesting for me to learn some new words. I’ve had good teachers, who developed further my interest. While I was at secondary school, we had a group of English students visiting our school. I thought it was a good chance to practice my speaking skills. At first, it wasn’t easy but gradually I understood all they were saying and started responding in brief phrases. I made many friends during this educational exchange and we still keep in touch.
At the moment I’m a high school student and I know which profession I’m going to pursue in the future. I would really like to become an interpreter. It’s going to be rather difficult to pass some serious tests in English, but I will try my best. I’m sure I will need these skills in the future.
Не секрет, что в настоящее время английский язык является самым популярным и распространенным языком в мире. Для этого есть много причин. Во-первых, это язык английской литературы и Шекспира. Во-вторых, он стал действительно важным в таких областях как туризм, бизнес, медицина, образование, информационные технологии, юриспруденция и т.д. В-третьих, английский язык мелодичен и практичен в изучении. Помимо этого, знание английского языка открывает безграничные возможности в развитии карьеры и в обучении.
Многие международные студенты едут в англоязычные страны, чтобы улучшить свои знания и разговорные навыки. Они знают, что это гарантирует им будущее карьерное развитие, потому что почти все современные сферы коммерции и бизнеса основаны на английском языке.
Являясь учеником средней школы, я полностью понимаю это, поэтому стараюсь всячески улучшить свои языковые навыки. Я начала изучать английский язык с пяти лет. Мне всегда было интересно учить новые слова. У меня были хорошие учителя, которые еще больше развили мой интерес. Когда я училась в средней школе, к нам в школу приехала группа английских студентов. Я подумала, что это хороший шанс практиковать мои разговорные навыки. Сначала было нелегко, но постепенно я стала понимать все, что они говорят и начала отвечать короткими фразами. Во время этого образовательного обмена я завела много друзей, с которыми и сейчас поддерживаю связь.
На данный момент я старшеклассница и я знаю, какую профессию собираюсь выбрать в будущем. Мне бы очень хотелось стать переводчиком. Будет довольно трудно сдать экзамены на английском языке, но я буду стараться изо всех сил. Я уверена, что эти навыки пригодятся мне в будущем.
